SharePoint version usage: 2016 survey vs 2018 survey

In 2016, 68% of individuals working with SharePoint were using SharePoint Online and Office 365 – in comparison to our current 2018 survey, which shows a total of 74% individuals working with SharePoint Online and Office 365. Now, this might not sound like a significant increase, but in 2016, the most common SharePoint version in use was SharePoint 2013 at 72%. This number has now significantly dropped to 59%.

This data points to a trend that organizations are switching to the latest SharePoint platforms with an equal 6% increase in SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint Online and Office 365 usage. Consequently, we see a decrease in all earlier SharePoint server versions being utilized – most significantly SharePoint 2013 – with a 13% drop in users.
