Fabric and Power BI grow one workspace at a time
The questions are the ones you already ask of a Team or a SharePoint site: what exists, who can open it, and whether anyone still does.
What exists
Reports, datasets, dataflows and pipelines multiply across workspaces. Duplicates and inconsistent data follow, and the single source of truth is hard to name.
Who can open it
A workspace can have external members or viewers. A report shared outside the company stays open until someone looks.
Whether anyone uses it
Artifacts that nobody has opened in months still sit in the tenant. Without a count per artifact type, they stay invisible.
What Rencore sees in Fabric
Fabric and Power BI objects in one inventory
Rencore reads the workspace layer of your tenant and keeps it in the same inventory as the rest of your Microsoft estate. You see the number of each object type, how it changed over three months, and which artifacts are unused.
- Workspaces, dashboards, reports, datasets and apps
- Datamarts, dataflows and pipelines
- Capacities
- Activity events
- Unused artifacts, counted per artifact type
Workspaces open to people outside the company
A policy lists the workspaces whose members or viewers include external users, with the external domain and the number of externals, and tracks the count over three months. So you can answer who outside the company can open your reports.
- Workspaces with external members or viewers
- The external domain and the number of externals per workspace
- The three-month trend of the policy
Where Fabric governance stops today
What Rencore reads in Fabric, and what it does not do.
Read through the Power BI connection
In Rencore, Fabric is read through the Power BI service. The object list on this page is the coverage, and nothing beyond it is claimed.
No workspace actions
Rencore does not run actions on workspaces and does not review workspace access for Fabric or Power BI today.
No owner column yet
The workspace inventory does not show an owner or admin per workspace, so Rencore does not list workspaces by missing owner.
Apps, Automation and BI
Fabric questions, answered
Which Fabric items does Rencore cover?
Workspaces, dashboards, reports, datasets, datamarts, dataflows, pipelines, capacities, apps and activity events. That list is the coverage today. If you need another Fabric item type governed, ask before you assume it is included.
How is Fabric connected?
Through the same connection as Power BI. You create an Entra ID application in the tenant you want to scan, enable Power BI under the services in your Rencore settings, and a user with the Fabric Administrator role gives consent. The Power BI page covers the same objects from the Power BI side.
Does Microsoft already cover this in Fabric?
In part. Fabric has its own admin portal, and that is where you keep configuring tenant settings and capacities. It works inside Fabric and Power BI. Rencore complements it by keeping the workspace layer in the same inventory as your Teams, SharePoint sites and Power Platform apps, with policies that count unused and externally shared workspaces over time.
How is Fabric coverage licensed?
It is part of the Apps, Automation and BI module, the optional paid module on the Premium and Enterprise plans, which also covers Power Platform, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI. The pricing page has the full plan comparison.
