Microsoft Entra ID

Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory, is Microsoft's cloud identity and access management service that signs users in and controls what they and applications can access across Microsoft 365 and connected services.

Also known as: Entra ID, Azure Active Directory, Azure AD

What it holds

Entra ID is the directory of a Microsoft 365 tenant. It holds users and guests, groups, admin roles, devices, and the app registrations and enterprise applications that other software uses to reach tenant data. Conditional Access policies, multi-factor authentication and risky sign-in detection all run here.

Why it matters for governance

Every access decision in Microsoft 365 starts with an identity. Stale guests, users who kept access after a role change, and applications holding broad Microsoft Graph permissions are some of the most common findings in a tenant review. Applications are easy to overlook: an app consented once can read mail or files for years, with an owner who has long moved on.

Where Rencore fits

Rencore inventories Entra ID users and guests, app registrations, enterprise applications, OAuth permission grants, client secrets and risky sign-ins, so you can find applications with broad permissions, secrets about to expire and guests who never accepted their invitation.
