Orphaned apps and agents

Orphaned apps and agents are applications, automations and AI agents, such as Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Entra ID app registrations and Copilot Studio agents, whose owner has left or is no longer responsible for them.

Also known as: orphaned app, ownerless app, orphaned agent, abandoned agent

How they become orphaned

Low-code apps, flows and agents are usually built by one person in a business team. When that person leaves, the app keeps running with their connections and permissions, but nobody can edit it, fix it or decide to switch it off. The same happens to app registrations in Entra ID whose creators have moved on.

Why they are a risk

An orphaned flow can keep moving data with a departed user's credentials. An orphaned agent can keep answering from content nobody reviews. An app registration without an owner can hold secrets that expire or permissions nobody can justify. Assigning a new owner, or retiring the item, is part of a complete offboarding.

Where Rencore fits

Rencore policies flag Power Apps without owners, flows without owners, application registrations and enterprise applications without owners, Copilot Studio agents with an ownership gap and orphaned Power BI datasets. Actions add owner users or groups to Power Apps and flows.
