Power Platform governance

Power Platform governance is the set of policies and controls an organization uses to keep the apps, flows, reports and agents built with Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI and Copilot Studio visible, owned, secure and within budget.

Also known as: Power Apps governance, Power Automate governance, low-code governance

What it covers

The building blocks are environments, which separate personal productivity from team and business-critical solutions, data loss prevention policies, which control which connectors may be combined, and the inventory of what has been built, by whom, with which connections and licences.

Microsoft provides the controls in the Power Platform admin center and the CoE Starter Kit. Making them work at scale is mostly about ownership and lifecycle.

Why it gets hard

Citizen development succeeds by being easy, so apps and flows multiply quickly. Many depend on one person, some use premium connectors that need extra licences, and some move business data to outside services. The governance goal is to keep building easy while knowing what runs, who owns it and what it costs.

Where Rencore fits

Rencore covers Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI in the same control plane as Microsoft 365: it inventories apps, flows, environments, connections and Power BI workspaces with their owners, and flags apps without an owner, apps shared with everyone and unused Power BI artifacts.
