Microsoft Purview
Microsoft Purview is Microsoft's suite of data security, compliance and data governance tools, covering sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, retention, audit, insider risk and eDiscovery across Microsoft 365 and beyond.

What it covers
Purview classifies and protects content with sensitivity labels, stops risky sharing with DLP policies, keeps or deletes content with retention labels and policies, records activity in the audit log, and supports legal holds and investigations with eDiscovery. Many of its controls also apply to Copilot interactions.
How it fits with governance
Purview protects data by classification and policy. Workspace governance asks different questions: who owns a Team, whether a site is still needed, who should be a member, and whether a label fits what a workspace now holds. The two work together, and a well-governed tenant makes Purview's policies easier to apply and to trust.
Where Rencore fits
Rencore complements Purview and does not replace it. It reads the sensitivity labels Purview applies to workspaces and files, and adds the ownership, lifecycle and access review layer that keeps labelled workspaces in the right hands.
