Copilot Control System

The Copilot Control System is Microsoft's name for the set of administrative controls, reports and data protection features that IT uses to manage Microsoft 365 Copilot and the agents built for it.

Also known as: CCS

What it brings together

Microsoft groups three kinds of capability under the name. Security and governance draws on existing products such as Microsoft Purview and SharePoint Advanced Management. Management controls cover licenses, settings and which agents users may install, mostly in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Measurement and reporting covers usage and adoption reports.

The set keeps changing as Microsoft adds controls, so it is best read as a family of features spread across several admin centers rather than one console.

What it leaves to you

The controls govern Copilot itself. Whether Copilot is safe to use still depends on the state of the tenant underneath: who owns each site, how widely content is shared and how many stale workspaces it holds. Those are ongoing governance tasks that the Copilot settings do not perform for you.

Where Rencore fits

Rencore complements the Copilot Control System. It adds Copilot usage, license and cost reports by department and region, policies for Copilot licenses on disabled or inactive accounts and for external web data sources, and the workspace, sharing and ownership checks that decide what Copilot can surface.
