SharePoint Advanced Management
SharePoint Advanced Management (SAM) is a Microsoft add-on for SharePoint Online and OneDrive that adds admin controls and reports for oversharing, inactive sites, site access and content lifecycle.

What it includes
SAM adds data access governance reports that show widely shared sites, restricted access control that limits a site to members of a chosen group, restricted content discovery that hides sites from Copilot and search, inactive site policies, site ownership policies, site access reviews for owners and version history limits. Microsoft includes SAM with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses and also sells it separately.
Where it stops
SAM covers SharePoint and OneDrive. Teams settings, guest accounts, licenses, Power Platform and agents built outside SharePoint are governed elsewhere. Organizations often use it together with other tools that join SharePoint findings to the rest of the tenant.
