Planner plans are created freely and then left alone

The questions are the ones you already ask of a Team or a SharePoint site: who created it, who owns it, who can see it, and what happens when its people move on.

Who owns the plan

A plan has a creator, owners, members and people it is shared with. Without an inventory, nobody can say who answers for a given plan.

Which group it belongs to

Every plan sits in a group, and the group decides who can reach it. The plan and its group have to be read together.

What is left when someone leaves

A shared plan stays behind when its creator leaves, with nobody answering for it.

What Rencore sees and does in Planner

Plans and tasks, related to the people behind them

Rencore scans Planner plans and tasks and relates them to Entra ID users and groups, so a plan is read together with the people who own it and the group that holds it.

  • Plans with creator, creation date, group and risk score, related to owners, members and shared users
  • Tasks with plan, bucket, assigned users, creator, start and due dates, percent complete, priority and checklist counts
  • Plans are scanned weekly and tasks daily by default, with other intervals or never as options
  • Findings are as fresh as the last scan

Planner boards from an approved template

Provisioning templates include a Planner Board. A template fixes the naming convention, the metadata a requester fills in, the visibility and the owners, so every new board starts the same way.

  • Planner Board is one of the provisioning templates, next to Teams, SharePoint and Viva Engage templates
  • Requesters choose from templates IT has approved
  • The request can be made inside Microsoft Teams

Where Planner coverage stops

This page stays inside what the Rencore documentation lists for Planner today.

No Planner policies listed

The Rencore documentation lists no Planner-specific policies. Plans and tasks are inventory objects.

No Planner actions

The plan and task objects have no automation actions. Rencore does not change or delete plans.

Scan-based, not real time

Findings come from scans, so a plan is as current as the last scan.

Planner questions, answered

What does Rencore inventory in Planner?

Plans and tasks. A plan carries its creator, creation date, group and risk score, and is related to its owners, members and shared users. A task carries its plan, bucket, assigned users, dates, percent complete, priority and checklist counts.

Can Rencore change or delete Planner plans?

No. The plan and task objects have no automation actions today. Rencore shows who owns a plan and which group it sits in, and the change itself stays in Planner.

Does Microsoft already cover this?

Planner lets the owners of each plan manage their own plan, and Microsoft Purview covers retention and compliance for Microsoft 365 content. Rencore complements them and does not replace them. What Rencore adds is one inventory of plans and tasks across the tenant, related to Entra ID users and groups, in the same control plane as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Exchange, plus Planner Board templates for provisioning.

How is Planner coverage licensed?

Planner is part of the Digital Workplace module, together with Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Viva Engage and Entra ID. The pricing page has the full plan comparison.
