Workspace lifecycle management
Workspace lifecycle management is the governance of collaboration workspaces such as Teams, SharePoint sites and Microsoft 365 groups through their whole life, from request and provisioning to renewal, archiving and deletion.
Also known as: workspace lifecycle governance, Teams lifecycle management
The stages
A governed workspace is requested with a purpose, provisioned from a template with at least two owners, a sensitivity label and the right sharing settings, and reviewed while it is in use. When it goes quiet or its purpose ends, it is renewed, archived or deleted, and what happens to its content follows retention rules.
Why lifecycle beats cleanup
A one-off cleanup removes the sprawl that exists and does nothing about next year's. Lifecycle rules applied from creation keep the count, the cost and the exposure in proportion to what the business actually uses. They also give AI assistants a cleaner set of content to ground on.
Where Rencore fits
Rencore covers the whole lifecycle: request and approval, provisioning from templates, policies for owners and inactivity, renewal reviews in which owners keep or retire a workspace, and automations that archive, lock or delete it.
