SharePoint agents
A SharePoint agent is a Copilot agent built on selected SharePoint sites, libraries or files that answers questions grounded in that content, giving users a chat with your documents experience.
Also known as: SharePoint agent
How they are created
Every SharePoint site has a default agent scoped to its content, and users with edit rights can create their own agents from a site, a library or a selection of files. The agent is saved as a file in the site, can be shared like a file and can be added to Teams chats. Using it requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license or pay-as-you-go billing.
What to watch
Because anyone with edit rights can create one, SharePoint agents multiply quickly. An agent answers with the permissions of the person asking, yet its sources can point at confidential sites, at outdated lists or at many site collections at once. Organizations that care about answer quality and exposure decide which agents are approved and review where each one draws its content from.
Where Rencore fits
Rencore inventories SharePoint agents with their sources. Policies flag agents that are not approved, agents that reference a confidential site without approval, agents that reference more than two site collections or use an outdated site or list, and site collections that contain more than ten agents.
