SharePoint storage management
SharePoint storage management is the practice of monitoring, limiting and reducing the storage used by SharePoint sites and OneDrive accounts, so that the tenant stays within its quota and does not pay for content nobody needs.
Also known as: SharePoint Online storage management, storage quota management, SharePoint storage optimization
Where the storage goes
A tenant receives a pooled SharePoint storage allowance based on its licenses, and extra storage is bought on top. The biggest consumers are usually version history, which keeps many copies of frequently edited files, large media and backup files, and sites that nobody uses any more but that nobody has deleted.
How it is managed
Administrators set quotas per site, limit the number of versions kept, archive or delete inactive sites and warn owners before they hit their limit. Watching growth per site makes it possible to act before the tenant runs out of space and has to buy more.
Where Rencore fits
Rencore policies flag SharePoint site collections and OneDrives near their storage limit, large OneDrive sites and unused site collections larger than 1 GB, and report sites over 50 GB. Actions set a site collection quota and remove old file versions, and an automation warns OneDrive owners who reach their limit.
