Microsoft no longer maintains the Power Platform CoE Starter Kit: no new features, no fixes, and its repository has been read-only since July 2026. Rencore governs Power Platform apps, flows and agents as maintained SaaS, next to the rest of Microsoft 365.

Microsoft stopped investing in the kit in 2026: no new features, no fixes, and issues are no longer reviewed.
Rencore is a SaaS product that keeps shipping updates and new services, with support from Rencore.
The kit lives in your tenant: two Dataverse environments, premium licences for the admins who run it and an upgrade every few months.
Rencore runs as SaaS, so there are no environments to host, no sync flows to repair and no upgrades to schedule.
The kit inventories apps, flows and bots. It does not see the Teams, sites and data they depend on.
Rencore governs Power Platform next to Microsoft 365 workspaces and Copilot agents, with one policy engine.
The kit surfaced stale apps and missing owners. It could never reliably enforce a policy, and that ceiling is now permanent.
Rencore detects each violation and fixes it, with the owner notified, reminded and escalated where a decision is needed.
The kit gave Power Platform teams an inventory, compliance and clean-up flows, and nurture content for onboarding makers. For many centres of excellence it was the starting point: free in licence terms, never free in effort, and only ever half of governance.
Microsoft now points customers to the Power Platform admin center: Inventory, Usage, Monitor and Actions. Monitor and the full set of Actions need Managed Environments, which require a premium licence for every user of an app in them. Rencore complements the admin center with ownership, lifecycle and cost across Power Platform and the rest of Microsoft 365.

Rencore Governance is developed in Germany by an independent vendor. Your workspace data is stored in the Azure region you choose, with Germany and Switzerland among the options, and Multi-Geo tenants are supported.
Rencore is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27017 and holds a SOC 2 Type 2 report. The certificate and reports are in the Rencore Trust Center.

Rencore governs 16 Microsoft services today, each in one inventory with an owner, a policy and a lifecycle. CoE Starter Kit does not fully govern any of them. Only Rencore governs Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Planner, Viva Engage, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 Copilot, SharePoint agents, Azure, Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
Microsoft describes it as no longer actively maintained. Since spring 2026 it receives no new features or updates, and issues are no longer reviewed. It remains available for existing and new deployments. The last release was in February 2026, and the GitHub repository has been archived and read-only since July 2026.
The Power Platform admin center: Inventory, Usage, Monitor and Actions, plus the Power Platform CLI and APIs. Monitor and the full set of Actions need Managed Environments, and every user running an app in a managed environment needs a premium licence.
A Power Platform or global admin, Power Apps and Power Automate per-user licences for the admins who run it, Power BI Pro to share its dashboard, and two environments with Dataverse. Microsoft recommended upgrading at least every three months, and notes performance issues above 10,000 objects.
Yes. Nothing in Rencore depends on the kit, so you can keep its reports while you move governance to Rencore and retire it when you are ready.
No. The admin center remains where you configure environments, data policies and Managed Environments. Rencore adds current ownership, owner-led lifecycle and cost attribution, and puts Power Platform in the same inventory as your Microsoft 365 workspaces and Copilot agents.
Yes. Rencore extends its AI & Agents governance beyond Microsoft: Claude Enterprise is in preview and ChatGPT Enterprise is coming soon. They are governed in the same place as your Microsoft 365 estate and connected to the Microsoft 365 data they work with, rather than in a separate tool. Microsoft 365 and Copilot remain the generally available core of the platform.
