Microsoft Copilot governance

Control what Microsoft Copilot can reach, before it surfaces the wrong data

Microsoft 365 Copilot answers at the permissions your tenant already grants. Where files are overshared, mislabeled or stale, Copilot surfaces them to whoever asks. Rencore shows you exactly what Copilot can reach, ranks the exposure by risk, and helps you right-size access before you roll it out.

Where Copilot goes wrong in Microsoft 365

Copilot does not break your rules; it follows them. It reads at the access your tenant grants and answers from the content it finds, so its risks are your data and permission gaps, made instantly visible:

Copilot inherits every oversharing mistake

It reads at the permissions your tenant already grants, so one overshared site becomes an answer for the whole workforce.

Sensitive content with no label

Unlabeled documents look the same as public ones to Copilot, so confidential material can surface in a prompt.

Stale content, confident answers

Copilot cannot tell current from outdated, so retired policies and old figures come back as fact.

Licenses spent, value unproven

Copilot seats get assigned and forgotten, with no view of who actually uses them or what they return.

Insight and action for the Copilot beachhead: see what Copilot can reach, rank the exposure by risk, then fix it and prove readiness. Rencore complements Microsoft Purview and Entra; it does not replace them.

Frequently asked questions

What is Microsoft Copilot governance?
Microsoft Copilot governance is the practice of controlling what Copilot can reach and surface inside your Microsoft 365 tenant: which sites, files and Teams it can read, whether that content is labeled and current, and who holds the permissions it inherits. Copilot answers at the access your tenant already grants, so governance means right-sizing that access and the data beneath it, both before rollout and continuously after it.
How is this different from Rencore’s AI agent governance page?
This page is about Microsoft 365 Copilot and the data it can reach. AI agent governance covers the wider estate: the Copilot Studio agents, SharePoint agents and other AI agents people build, which multiply outside any inventory. If your question is agent sprawl and shadow AI, start with AI agent governance; if it is what Copilot surfaces from your own data, you are on the right page.
Does Rencore replace Microsoft Purview or Entra for Copilot?
No. Rencore complements Microsoft’s own controls. Purview labels and protects data and Entra manages identity and access; Rencore inventories what Copilot can reach across the estate, ranks the exposure by risk and routes the fixes to owners, so those Microsoft controls get applied where they matter before Copilot surfaces the gap.
Can we assess Copilot exposure before we roll it out?
Yes. You can see what Copilot would reach on day one: overshared sites, unlabeled sensitive content and stale documents, ranked by risk, alongside license cost by department so you enable the seats that return value. See Microsoft Copilot readiness for the full pre-rollout checklist.
